Industrial Flanged Ball Bearings Supplier
Flanged ball bearings are a type of single-row rolling bearing that include a flange (rim-like extension) on the outer ring. This flange is an integrated lip or collar on one side of the bearing’s outer circumference. The primary purpose of the flange is to facilitate locating the bearing in a housing and to secure it axially without needing additional components. In other words, a flanged ball bearing can be inserted into a simple straight bore (through-hole) and the flange will seat against the housing face, eliminating the need for a step/shoulder in the housing or separate retaining rings
Flanged ball bearings should not be confused with flanged bearing units (which are bearings already mounted in a flanged housing ready for bolting). Instead, flanged ball bearings are standalone bearings that simply have a modified outer ring. They are widely used in industrial and mechanical applications where ease of assembly and precise positioning are important
Apart from the flange, these bearings are constructed similarly to standard ball bearings. Their part numbers reflect this with a prefix or suffix like "F" or "MF" (for miniature metric types). Similar to standard ball bearings, these products can be offered in open, shielded, or sealed configurations for lubrication retention and contaminant protection. Letters like Z or ZZ indicate metal shields on one or both sides of the bearing, while RS/2RS (or RZ/2RZ) indicate rubber seals (contact or low-contact) on one or both sides
At BRK Bearings, we provide the following types of flanged ball bearings (stainless steel version also available):
- Flanged Deep Groove Ball Bearings: These are single-row radial bearings with a flange on the outer ring for easy axial positioning. They handle radial and moderate axial loads and are widely used in motors, fans, and gearboxes.
- Flanged Thin-Section Ball Bearings: Slim-profile deep groove bearings with flanges. Ideal for space/weight-sensitive applications like robotics and aerospace. The flange helps prevent axial movement from thermal expansion or vibration.
- Flanged Miniature Ball Bearings: Very small deep groove bearings with flanges for easy installation in compact assemblies. Common in instruments, RC models, micro motors, and precision devices requiring tight axial fitment.
- Flanged Angular Contact Ball Bearings: Designed for high axial or combined loads, often used in machine tools and ball screw supports. Double-row designs have flanges with bolt holes for rigid mounting and improved alignment.

Advantages and Performance Benefits
- Simplified Housing Design: The flange removes the need for a shoulder or snap ring, letting you use a simple through-hole. It seats the bearing during assembly, reducing machining and alignment errors.
- Axial Retention: The flange prevents axial movement under load or vibration, maintaining position even with housing expansion. It can also press against a cover for added security.
- Space and Parts Savings: Flanged bearings replace extra parts like snap rings or plates, saving room and weight — especially useful in compact assemblies and thin housings.
- Better Alignment: The flange provides a precise surface that helps square the bearing with the housing. This improves gear and rotor alignment and reduces axial play.
- Easier Maintenance: Bearings can be quickly pressed out and reinserted without removing retaining clips. This speeds up replacement and reduces error risk.
- Mounting Versatility: Some flanged bearings have bolt-ready flanges, allowing direct mounting. This secures and positions the bearing in one step — ideal for ball screw supports.
Applications of Flanged Ball Bearings
- Electric Motors & Gearboxes: Common in small motors, fans, and gearboxes. Flanges simplify assembly by seating the bearing without clips or shoulders, ideal for fast, repeatable installs.
- Industrial Automation: Used in robotics joints, actuators, conveyors, and packaging machines. Flanges ease blind installation and provide stable, accurate positioning.
- RC Models & Hobby Devices: Found in RC cars, drones, and CNC kits. Mini flanged bearings stay in place under vibration and fit easily into small housings.
- Office & Computing Equipment: Used in fans, printers, and hard drives. Flanges make installation easier in molded plastic housings without added retainers.
- Automotive Subsystems: Appear in window motors, mirrors, and throttle systems. Also used in agri-equipment where flanges simplify mounting in thin frames.
- Machine Tools & Ball Screws: Precision angular-contact flanged bearings support ball screws in CNC machines. Flanges allow rigid mounting and replace bulky covers.
- Home Appliances with High-Temp Environments: Ideal where housings expand (e.g., ovens, dryers). The flange prevents axial movement even when thermal fit loosens.
