Bearings Ball Bearings Deep Groove Ball Bearings, Single Row

Single Row Deep Groove Ball Bearings Supplier

Single-row deep groove ball bearings are the most commonly used type of bearings, known for their simple structure, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness. They typically consist of an inner ring, an outer ring, steel balls, and a cage. The raceway grooves of the inner and outer rings are circular arcs slightly larger than the ball radius, forming “deep” grooves that allow the bearing to sustain radial loads and limited axial loads in both direction. These bearings are simple in design, non-separable, and robust in operation, which means they require little maintenance. They are suitable for high rotation speeds, with low frictional torque that minimizes power loss. Thanks to these characteristics, single row deep groove ball bearings have become the most widely used bearing type, found in everything from electric motors and household appliances to industrial machinery

At BRK Bearings, we provide the following series (stainless steel version also available):

  • 6000 Series (Extra Light) – Very compact and lightweight bearings designed for high-speed, low-load applications in space-constrained environments.
  • 6200 Series (Light) – Light-duty bearings offering a balance between size and load capacity, ideal for electric motors and general machinery.
  • 6300 Series (Medium) – Medium-duty bearings with a wider profile to handle higher radial loads in industrial and agricultural equipment.
  • 6400 Series (Heavy) – Heavy-duty bearings with thick cross-sections built for very high radial loads at moderate speeds in large machinery.
  • 6700 Series (Extra Thin) – Ultra-thin, lightweight bearings used where minimal space and weight are critical, such as in robotics and precision devices.
  • 6800 Series (Thin Section - Light) – Thin-section bearings optimized for higher speeds and moderate loads, commonly used in automation and small electric drives.
  • 6900 Series (Thin Section - Heavy Duty) – Thin but strong bearings offering higher load capacities than 6800 series, suitable for motorcycles and industrial machinery.

Classifications and Standard Designations

Single-row deep groove ball bearings are classified and designated using a standardized code system defined by ISO and ABMA.

  • Basic Bearing Number (Type): In ISO/ABMA nomenclature, the first one digit of the bearing number indicate the bearing type. Deep groove ball bearings are generally indicated by the number 6 as the first digit of the code.
  • Basic Bearing Number (Size Series): The second digit (or second and third, in some five-digit designations) indicates the general size series, which is related to the bearing’s robustness or cross-sectional size. Common series for deep groove bearings are: 0 or 1 (extra light series, often marked as 60xx or 61xx), 2 (light series, 62xx), 3 (medium series, 63xx), and sometimes 4 (heavy series, 64xx)
  • Bore Size Code: The last part of the basic designation (typically two digits) indicates the bearing’s bore (inner diameter). For bore codes 00, 01, 02, 03, these are standardized to 10 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, and 17 mm respectively. For bore codes 04 and above, the code is multiplied by 5 to get the bore diameter in millimeters

Design Variations of Deep Groove Ball Bearings

Single-row deep groove ball bearings come in many design variants to suit different requirements. Common ways to classify them include:

  • Seals or Shields: Letters like Z or ZZ indicate metal shields on one or both sides of the bearing, while RS/2RS (or RZ/2RZ) indicate rubber seals (contact or low-contact) on one or both sides
  • Cage Material: Cages (ball separators) may be steel (pressed or machined), brass, or polymer (PA, phenolic). Pressed steel cages are common for economy; polymers (PA66, fibreglass-reinforced nylon) offer low inertia for high-speed spindles
  • Ring and Ball Material: The standard material is high-carbon chromium steel (e.g. SAE 52100). Bearings can also be made with stainless steel (for corrosion resistance) or hybrid (ceramic balls with steel rings) for high-speed, low-magnetic, or high-temperature uses
  • Internal Clearance: Bearings are supplied with different internal clearance (axial play) classes (ISO 5753), typically CN (normal) up to C2, C3, C4 (increasing clearance). C3 and above are used for higher operating temperatures or shafts with greater expansion
  • Precision/Tolerance Grades: Standard bearings meet metric “normal” tolerances (ISO grade P0, ABEC1). Higher-precision grades (P6, P5, P4) or ABEC-5/7/9 classes are also available for demanding applications.

Advantages and Performance Benefits

Single-row deep groove ball bearings offer several key performance benefits that make them popular in industry:

  • High-Speed Capability: With deep grooves and a low contact angle, these bearings run with very low friction and can achieve very high limiting speeds
  • Bidirectional Load Support: They can support substantial radial loads and moderate axial loads in both directions. Typical, they can handle axial forces up to about 50% of the radial load capacity
  • Robustness and Durability: The simple construction (solid rings, rolling elements, cage) is very rugged and reliable under variety of conditions. These bearings are known for long life under proper load and lubrication condition
  • Quiet Operation: Deep groove bearings (especially modern “Generation C” variants) are optimized for low noise and vibration
  • Ease of Use and Maintenance: Their non-separable nature and standardized sizes make them easy to handle, install, and replace. Sealed versions require no further lubrication, and shields/seals protect internal grease

Applications of Deep Groove Ball Bearings

Single-row deep groove ball bearings are used across virtually all industries. Typical application areas include:

  • Electric Motors and Generators: These bearings are ubiquitous in motors of all sizes. The low torque and high-speed capability improve motor efficiency and reliability
  • Automotive: In vehicles, they appear in transmissions, alternators, water pumps, wheel hubs (for light duty), and electric drive units. They handle combined radial and axial loads in gearboxes and help reduce noise in accessory drives
  • Industrial Machinery: Pumps, compressors, conveyors, fans, blowers, blowers, gearboxes, and machine tools all use deep groove bearings.
  • Household and Commercial Appliances: Washing machines, dryers, vacuum cleaners, power tools, HVAC fans, and kitchen machines use deep groove bearings in their motors and shafts.
  • Robotics and Automation: Industrial robots and automation equipment often use compact deep groove bearings in joints and gearboxes, which requires compact size, high speed rating, and dual-load capacity.
